Aris – Cello and Guitar teacher

Aris is a multi-instrumentalist offering teaching for cello and electric guitar.  He began learning cello at age 6 learning under William Bruce at the Guildhall School of Music, achieving distinction in both ARSM and DipABRSM diplomas of cello performance. He has also recently completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Oxford University.

Over the years Aris has gained orchestral experience from the National Children’s Orchestra, Cavatina Orchestra, Oxford University Orchestra, and touring with the National Youth String Orchestra. In 2022 he appeared alongside violist Jaren Ziegler in the 2022 BBC Young Musician semi final, and has performed in venues such as the Barbican, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, Royal Festival Hall, St John’s Smith Square and the Holywell Music Room.   He is looking forward to teaching across all ages and styles, passing on the wisdom and inspiration of his teachers to the next generation of budding cellists.

Unlike cello, Aris takes a more tailored approach to guitar teaching. As a more modern instrument, there very few rulebooks on how to play – it’s a blank canvas for everyone! He teaches students by developing their own styles alongside their musical interests and tastes, acoustic and electric.

Aris enjoyed a myriad of genres such as jazz, indie and rock and metal throughout his school years. He now performs guitar with several function bands across Oxford and has played in venues such as The Roundhouse, The Camden Assembly, The Lexington and several gigs at the Bullingdon. His indie-folk band Iris and Steel recently opened for George Ezra at Latitude Festival 2023.  Currently he is focusing on recording his solo alternative rock work under the moniker Mount St. Helen.
