Throughout the SCMT Youth Music Festival we have been raising money for ‘amaze’ a local charity supporting parents and families who have children with special needs. We are still raising money for this brilliant charity so if you haven’t donated there will be another opportunity to do so at our last event (Adults and Advanced Students Concert) on Sunday. Last week saw a whole host of SCMT Youth Music Festival events. We had 1 on 1 sight reading and aural sessions, theory bootcamp, mock exams, filmed performances and competitions, all of which were a resounding success.

Our students taking part in the sight reading, aural and theory classes all went away with lots of new skills to put into practice and a shiny SCMT certificate. Those sitting a mock exam now know exactly what they need to work on for their upcoming exam and also have a shiny SCMT certificate. Then we saw some brilliant performances in the competiton…. and of course they all went away with a shiny SCMT certificate!

Thanks to all those who came and took part in last week’s events and don’t forgot the SCMT Youth Music Festival is not over yet…. we still have Sunday’s Adults and Advances Students Concert…. hope to see many of you there!

 

Here at SCMT we will be featuring Glastonbury Festival as our Composer/Musician of the Month… yes we know it’s neither a composer of musician but to celebrate the SCMT Youth Music Festival and all the great musicians that feature at this brilliant music festival we thought we’d do something a little different. Glastonbury Festival takes place on the last weekend of June, so throughout this month we will be featuring some of the great performances and history of this historic music festival… watch this space for more!

Last Thursday saw the SCMT Youth Music Festival grades 3-4 competition… and what a competition it was! We had some brilliant performances, it was wonderful to see how well our students are doing. We had great technique, expression, accuracy and characterisation and it was very difficult for the judges to pick a winner…But it had to be done and the following were our winners:

1st place – Dan Hutton

2nd place – Ruby O’Connell Rogers

3rd place – Jonah Mitchell

Congratulations to our winners and a massive well done to everyone who took part, you all did brilliantly, we are very proud here at SCMT.

 

Throughout our SCMT Youth Music Festival we are raising money and awareness for Brighton charity ‘amaze’. These guys do a brilliant job supporting parents and families who have children with special needs. There will be chances to donate at our 1 on 1 sessions, competitions next week and our Adults and Advanced Concert on June 6th. This Month SCMT have picked the brilliant Singer/songwriter, performer, multi instrumentalist Stevie Wonder as our Composer/Musician of the Month.

His career has spun over 50 decades and in that time he has won many awards. He has won 25 (yes 25!) Grammy awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award! He won an Oscar for his song ‘I just Called to Say I Love You’.

He has also been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he has a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame!

Stevie Wonder has been awarded countless lifetime achievement awards for his contribution to music and also for his work in charitable organisations and civil rights… he really is a winner!

This time next week will be the start of the SCMT Youth Music Festival 1 on 1 mock tests and musicianship sessions. They will be running across Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th May.

By now all students taking part should have their allocated times, please make sure you bring all your music and photocopies of music if needed. Once again they will be held at our new venue, Brighton Unitarian Church, New Road, BN1 1UF. Please make sure you are there 15 mins before your allocated time.

Wow what an amazing day… we had over 100 performances… A massive thank you to everyone for showing their support in raising money for amaze.  Also another thank you to Ackerman Music for sponsoring us!

We are so excited here at SCMT headquarters, today is the children’s concert and therefore the start of the SCMT Youth Music Festival!

By now all our students should be practised and raring to go…. make sure you remember all your music and instruments.

A final reminder it is a new venue, Brighton Unitarian Church, New Road, BN1 1UF. Our schedule is tight, so please arrive on time but no more than 15 minutes before the start of your concert.

Entry is £5 on the door for adults (all children and performers – free). We’re all very excited and can’t wait to see you there!

As you may or may not already know SCMT have picked the fantastic singer-songwriter/multi instrumentalist Stevie Wonder as our Composer/Musician of the Month.

Stevie Wonder was a child prodigy and was signed by Detroit record company Motown in 1961 at the age of 11 and released his first single ‘Fingertips’ at the age of 13. He has recorded music for Motown until 2010… few artists have stayed with the same record company for so long!

 

During this time Wonder released hits such as ‘Superstition’, ‘Signed Sealed Delivered’, ‘Sir Duke’ and Motown’s biggest international seller ‘I Just Called to Say I loved You’. His Hits have spanned from the 1960s to present day!

Starting with the children’s concert this Sunday and finishing with the adults and advanced students concert on the 8th June, we will be holding concerts,  mock exams, competitions, exam preparation sessions and much more. This Month at SCMT we have picked the brilliant Stevie Wonder to be our Composer/Musician of the Month. Stevie Wonder is an American multi instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and record producer.

He was a child prodigy. By the age of 11 he had already mastered the piano, voice, harmonic, drums and bass and auditioned for the Motown Record Label. Maybe the greatest part of all is that he was blind from birth.

Can you believe Stevie released his first single ‘Fingertips’ when he was just 13! Watch this space for more on this fantastic musician…

Don’t forget today is the entry deadline to this year’s SCMT Youth Music Festival. The festival includes our summer children’s concerts and adult concert (for SCMT students only), alongside competitions, mock exams, theory workshops, masterclass and the chance to get yourself on film (open to everyone)!
