SCMT has lots of cello students learning at the moment. We think that the best age to start is 7-8 years. We have 12 dedicated teachers overall and they are all incredibly inspired and engaging musicians.
The cello is an amazing instrument, capable of performing multiple musical roles, and this versatility is the reason its rich tone has crept into almost every musical genre. People have compared its sound to the human voice for centuries, which is probably why cello lessons are so appealing!
It’s a common misconception that deciding to dedicate yourself to cello lessons means you can only perform classical music. Although solid and structured classical training is essential to anyone’s musical journey, the repertoire created for the cello is astonishing in its diversity and attracts more and more youngsters as the years pass. Here are a few very well-known themes:
- Game of Thrones’ opening theme. Ramin Djawadi
- The Beatles’… Eleanor Rigby.
- Wonderwall – Oasis
- Apologize by One Republic.
SCMT can advise at any time regarding the hire and purchase of your cello. Our good friends at Ackerman music specialise in stringed instruments so you couldn’t be in better hands.
Our favourite cello lesson testimonial…
‘Anna is a great cello teacher. She strikes a good balance between having fun in the lesson as well as giving structure and direction to use the half an hour effectively. Our 7 year-old has made great progress and remains enthusiastic which I think is an excellent result!’ Libby, parent
